 Our hearts sustain us physiologically, pumping life-giving blood and oxygen throughout the body. Energetically, the heart has long been viewed as the place from which love flows. Now science is expanding our picture of what the heart is capable of. According to the HeartMath Institute, "Our research suggests the heart also is an access point to a source of wisdom and intelligence that we can call upon to live our lives with more balance, greater creativity and enhanced intuitive capacities. All of these are important for increasing personal effectiveness, improving health and relationships and achieving greater fulfillment." Do you remember how Maria needed to sing? How she needed to dance and play? How she was considered incorrigible by the nuns who raised her, yet she still found ways to be herself? The Sound of Music is a classic Throat Chakra story. Maria felt her need to express her truth in the form of song and dance intensely, and while she tried to behave in accordance with the nuns' expectations, she also was unwilling or unable to stop being herself. The throat chakra is the energetic center where we connect with our personal truth and from which we express it. Many of us have suppressed this function, to the detriment of our health and fulfillment. Viewed through the lens of the chakras, this movie glows yellow, the color of the solar plexus chakra.
The solar plexus is all about your personal power - knowing it, embodying it, and living from it. The Karate Kid is an archetypal story of a wounded child - in this case a boy who is challenged by bullies - who embarks on a quest to claim his own power. Through the practice of karate, he discovers inner strength, confidence and self awareness. The solar plexus chakra is the place in which we hold the seeds of our personal power. By removing blocks in this energy center, including traumas stored in our cellular memory and energetic imbalances, we restore our capacity to reach our potential. I brought my husband to yet another concert with the remaining members of the Grateful Dead, my all-time favorite band. In the past, he'd had positive yet unremarkable experiences. On a magical night in July, a vortex of beautifully synchronized band members, a fantastic set list, and an iconic outdoor setting with generous dancing space birthed a holy experience for both of us. Passion inspired by music, romance and creative endeavors are quintessential sacral chakra experiences. The sacral chakra is located below the naval, the zone from which our physical and etheric fertility flows. When combined with love energy of the heart chakra, sacral chakra experiences can be utterly transcendent.
