In a recent conversation, Bioenergetic healer Sarah Irwin and Miriam Katz discussed:
Listen here at Not Medical Advice on Spotify. For years, I have been recommending that my clients learn the skill of shamanic journeying, which I teach periodically in live workshops. As part of my latest initiative, launching a shamanic study program called Hebrew Shamanism, I recorded a lesson in Shamanic Journeying, which is now live and posted here for you. If you received a power retrieval as part of our work together, a shamanic journey is a tool that you can use to connect with your power animal. If you are curious about developing a robust shamanic toolkit through the lens and teachings of the ancient Hebrews, I invite you to check out Re-Sourcing Ourselves with Hebrew Shamanism. We launch next Sunday, May 10, 2020. Join us! Shamanism is an umbrella term for a way of interacting with the world that is found across cultures and continents, dating back to our earliest ancestors. Shamans are defined by their relationship with healing spirits, and shamans across all traditions work with the spirits of animals to build and enhance their capacity for power.
When a power animal is restored to us, it is considered a Power Retrieval, as the spirit of the animal brings with it the powers inherent in that animal's nature. A tiger, for example, may bring the energies of enhanced perception, courage and the capacity to trust in one's essential capacity to take necessary action. Through working with power animals, we are granted many gifts. Some of their most profound gifts include:
I am honored to be teaching others to meet and develop a deep connection with their power animals through an upcoming class called Meet Your Power Animal in Boston on 1/27. If you can, please join me! Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. I am also planning to develop a recorded version of this resource for my non-local clients and readers. The gifts of power animals are abundant and life-affirming. I'm humbled by the opportunity to help people step into their greatness through cultivating this essential relationship. In service to others and in my personal time, I play with beings who hold more wisdom and power than our conscious minds can access. I recently embarked on a shamanic journey into non-ordinary reality, where I met the oversoul of birds. This mystical being, who works with all forms of bird medicine, showed me a feather fan that I was to assemble from the feathers of a multitude of birds, which have been gifted to me. "This medicine tool will be used for magic retrieval," he said. "Magic retrieval?" I asked. "What's that?" "Magic retrieval is a shamanic journey in which you find and restore a connection that your client had with magic. Most people are very connected with their own inner magic during childhood. As they grow up, many reject or forget that connection. You can restore their unique magic - including gifts, abilities and tools - through a magic retrieval. This works much the same way as a soul retrieval (in which parts of a person's soul are brought back into the body) or a power retrieval (in which a power animal or other helping spirit is retrieved from non-ordinary reality)." I have had the honor of retrieving magic for several people since this revelation was made to me, and have recognized magic retrievals from sessions with past clients before the terminology was shared with me. My first conscious magic retrieval happened as part of a soul retrieval for a client who came to me in pain, and has since been stepping into her personal power in increasingly bold and beautiful strides. I found a soul part of this woman - a girl whose heart had been wounded by a boy when he told her she wasn't beautiful. Upon hearing those words, the girl shattered a magic mirror that she'd held in her heart. That mirror had enabled her to learn the truth of any situation. When I found the girl, she was sitting amongst the broken glass that remained of the mirror. We healed the girl and restored the mirror to its rightful place in her heart. With the repair and retrieval of the mirror, my client was given access to the magic she'd held in childhood - the ability to find the truth in anything. As I described the mirror, my client reported that she'd been dreaming of broken glass for years. Giggles bubbled up within her along with the return of her childlike self. This amazing being has since restored another wounded soul part who, in turn, retrieved another power object, a crystal ball that holds wisdom. This client is experiencing magic and miracles at every step on the Path of Power. We move energy every moment of every day. Most of us are unconscious about the many ways that we affect energy. Thoughts, feelings, words and actions all transmit energy. Most of all, intention directs energy. Cleaning your energy field is just as important as bathing. You can use your intention to clear your energy. There are infinite ways to do so. Visuals are one powerful tool to reduce the energetic residue that accumulates in your field. The attached energy clearing tool has an extra special bonus connected to it. Once you've cleared your field, you also get to use the energy to manifest your intentions. These intentions should always be used for the highest good of all. There are many beings and species on the planet that need your help. What will you create today? Please enjoy the clearing, and share your intentions in the comments to apply extra energy to your manifestation. On April 18, I will be featured on a free virtual summit called Unleash the Psychic Goddess Within: How to Awaken Your Own Unique Gifts to Have an Extraordinary Life.
Our topic will be empaths and heart energy. You'll learn...
I'm excited to be partnering with Susan Ortolano to bring this valuable information your way. Join me on April 18! I am a lifelong desert lover. And as of the last 10 or so years, I'm a healthy desert lover. I'm also a huge fan of simple recipes, with whole, raw ingredients. Over time, my approach to breakfast has evolved. I'll take you through the trenches, sharing my 2-minute recipes that literally even toddlers can make. It started with a scoop of peanut butter; a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter made with one ingredient - organic peanuts (okay, maybe sea salt too) - into which I'd mash one banana. In high school I called this delicious combo "soup" (catchy, eh?). Then I discovered cacao nibs - essentially the dried, fermented center of the cacao bean. It's bitter, but it's great paired with the sweetness of banana. I'd sprinkle some on top (about 1-2 tablespoons). Voila, soup and nibs. (recipe #1) I started moving away from peanut butter - various reasons (rancidity, nutrition profile, etc.) and instead paired 1 tbs almond butter with a banana. Still wonderful. Still worked well with a heap of cacao nibs. To amp up the nutrients even more, I'd add 1-2 tbs of hemp seeds on top. I started calling my creation "banana mash". In case you're wondering, that's where the name still stands today. (recipe #2) Over time I decided I wanted less nuts and more coconut oil in my diet. I'd mash up 1 heaping tablespoon of coconut oil in a banana. The best masher is the flat side of a fork, by the way. I like to mash mine until it's smooth. Then I added in some amazing spices to add some medicinal benefits, like cinnamon (1 tsp), coriander (1 tsp), nutmeg (1/2 tsp). These are approximate amounts and sometimes I'd double the coconut oil and double or triple the spices. With lots of cacao nibs and hemp seeds on top. When I got lazy (or productive - close call) I'd pre-mix the nibs and seeds and keep them in a mason jar for easy pouring. (recipe #3) One vacation, I forgot to bring cacao nibs with me. The horror! But, given the way they were getting stuck in my teeth, forcing me to brush my teeth again after breakfast, I was relieved to try a new idea with ingredients on hand. I added 2 tbs of organic, raw cacao powder into my banana and coconut oil mash. Ah-mazing. With or without cinnamon. (recipe #4 - as shown in the pictures below) Lately, I've been aiming to use less oils in my diet. The most recent, stripped down and simplest version yet is this: 1 banana, 2 tbs of cacao powder. I often repeat to fill my belly. (recipe #5)
It's worth noting that I don't drink caffeine in the morning, and the cacao has a subtle wake-up factor without the steamroller effect of coffee. One tablespoon contains 12mg of caffeine, 1/8 the content of a cup of coffee. As you dial it up, you're also dialing up a natural, nutrient-rich, and bliss-chemical laden source of caffeine. I'm happy to answer questions and would love to learn about your favorite cacao recipes in the comments! Cacao has been a constant companion in my life.
Like most in the western world, I came across cacao initially in its most familiar form: chocolate. It had me at hello. And yet, our connection was so superficial. It centered on the way chocolate met my tastebuds, how that flavor made me feel. And that flavor was heavily mediated by white sugar, essentially a drug that causes a quick high and then a crash. How could I really have appreciated cacao under those terms? Over time, as I expelled most sugar from my diet, I discovered the joys of raw cacao. I'd put cacao nibs on top of food, and use cacao powder to make raw chocolate, hot chocolate, and for countless desserts (one of my family favorites is avocado chocolate pudding). As I got to know cacao on its own terms, I learned more of its nuances - the complexity of its taste, its ability to awaken me and connect me with my innate vitality. And then I made a discovery that took me deeper still. Cacao is revered as a food of the gods in Mayan and Aztec cultures, utilized to open and heal the depths of the heart. As mystical resources make their way around the globe, Cacao ceremonies from the south are moving upwards to north America. Using the timeless shamanic tool of journeying, I was able to meet cacao on a soul level. Our powerful meeting opened my heart, showed me a deeper pathway leading from the heart south into the lower chakras, where we store old wounds. For an hour following the cacao journey, I felt invigorated and strengthened. Ironically, it was while eating a square of store-bought dark chocolate that those powerful sensations left my body. Cacao has become my ally, a plant spirit I connect with for enhanced energy and guidance. If you're in the greater Boston area, I invite you to join me on the evening of March 2 for a Sacred Cacao Ceremony at Akasha. If not, I encourage you to seek out Cacao Ceremony near you, or engage cacao directly. Have you journeyed or performed ceremony with cacao? I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments!
